Beer

I am an enthusiastic drinker of real ale and for many years have been a member of the Campaign for Real Ale. I also brew beer at home, but have never ventured beyond the use of a kit.

Home Brewing

I’ve never had the time to take home brewing that seriously, so I have stuck to using kits. I find that investing in a good quality kit is well worthwhile. For a 5 gallon brew this means a 3Kg kit, usually in two tins, and which requires no extra sugar. Mostly I make kits from Muntons, especially from their Premium Gold and Gold range. I also enjoy the Wherry and Nelson’s Revenge from Woodforde’s. Although by no means an exact copy of the brewery version, they are both fine brews in their own right. For a salutary lesson on the hazards of home brewing, visit the Saga of the Feet.
